This maintenance program is designed to remove sediment accumulation within the watermains in order to maintain good water quality in the distribution system.

Watermain flushing and hydrant activities often result in temporary inconveniences including discoloured water and lower than normal water pressure. The discoloured water is a normal result of flushing activities. Should you experience this issue, it is recommended that users run COLD water tap for a few minutes each morning to clear any discoloured water from your plumbing. The low pressures are due to the systems activities including, turning on and off hydrants, length of time necessary to flush the debris out of the lines and opening and closing isolation valves. Again, if you experience low pressure or air in your plumbing just run a COLD water tap for a few minutes each morning to remedy this issue. Please keep in mind that not everyone will experience these issues but if you do just follow the recommended procedure and it should clear up within a few minutes. it should be noted that discoloured water and lower than normal pressure can occur at the site of flushing or several blocks away due to changes in flow and direction of water flow. It is impossible to predict which location or the extent of the customers which may be affected.

Recommendations:

a) run COLD water tap each morning if you experience discolouration and or low pressure and or air
b) avoid water use between the hours of 4:00 am and 5:00 pm when crews are flushing in your area
c) avoid washing clothes with discoloured water

We appreciate your patience while the  program is being completed. If you would like more information or need to report ongoing water quality problems please do not hesitate to contact the Town of Bancroft at 613-332-3331.
